Sophrology (free)
Since 2007, the Institut Curie in Paris has offered patients in the Outpatient Medical Oncology unit the opportunity to attend individual sophrology sessions to “help cancer patients manage the distress caused by the disease and its treatment, including anxiety, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, and body-image disruptions.”
The Sophrology Academy in the UK states that “Use of Sophrology with oncology patients is known to reduce anxiety and pain during treatment”.
Here are a few words from Emanuelle, our Sophrologist:
Sophrology is a dynamic relaxation method developed by neuropsychiatrist Professor Alfonso Caycedo starting in the 1960s and evolving continuously over the next thirty years. It combines mental and physical exercises such as relaxation, breathing, gentle movement, creative visualisation, and meditation to harmonize body and mind, reduce anxiety, and improve performance and well-being.
Sophrology has been proven to positively impact the nervous system.
Each session lasts about one hour and includes:
- An initial exchange of information
- The release of physical tensions synchronised with the breathing rhythm
- Relaxation of the body in full consciousness
- Dynamic relaxation exercises
- Positive visualisation
- Time to debrief
