Reflexology is a holistic therapy, treating the body, mind and spirit (not just the symptoms) and has been practiced for over 4000 years. It was further developed and refined in the 1930’s by Eunice Ingham.
Reflexology is the application of pressure (using fingers and thumbs) to the feet based on the principle that there are points on the feet (hands too), which correspond to all parts of the body including the glands and organs. There is some suggestion that Reflexology may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions including: stress-related conditions, migraine, back pain and hormonal imbalances. Reflexology helps the body to maintain its natural balance.
The length of a session will be adapted to suit the client.
Reflexology does not aim to treat cancer; it aims to support the client through a difficult stage in their lives. Reflexology also appears to help with quality-of-life issues.
There have been many studies done on cancer and reflexology, some outcomes have demonstrated that Reflexology:
- Decreases the level of anxiety and depression and pain management
- Improves quality of life during chemotherapy treatment
- Reduce pain and anxiety in women undergoing brachytherapy for cervical cancer
- Improvement in energy levels, quality of sleep. Reduced stress and tension, hot flushes and sweat
